Arusha
The safari starts in Arusha. After lunch, drive to Lake Manyara, a soda lake located in the Rift Valley. Lake Manyara – a jewel of Africa – is nestled in a breathtaking landscape. Surrounded by a narrow green belt of forest and towered over by the majestic escarpment of the Rift Valley, it is understandable that this graceful place represented the most beautiful thing that Ernest Hemingway had ever seen in Africa. The first exciting game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, home of the tree climbing lions. Apart from the varied landscapes such as jungle, swamp and savannah, there is also a large selection of animals such as giraffe, zebra, elephant, gazelle, hippopotamus, monkey and around 400 different species of birds.
After breakfast departure with your packed lunch to Serengeti Fort Ikoma, game drives in Serengeti National Park while you are en route. This huge park shows every variety of animals, pure Africa: from large predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs to the smaller herbivores, which constantly must fear for their lives.
Tanzania’s oldest and best-known national park is famous for the annual natural spectacle, animal migration. 6 million wildebeest hooves start moving and more than 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson gazelles join the procession. But this natural wonder also has something impressive to offer outside of the hikes: large herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephants and giraffes, several thousand antelopes, impalas, and gazelles.
Today you spend the whole day on safari in this impressive national park, the kingdom of animals. To guarantee the best yield of a full day, a picnic lunch will be prepared, and you will spend the whole day in the Serengeti National Park in search of the Big 5.
Enjoy a rich breakfast. Then drive to your lodge in Karatu, just outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The famous crater covers over 300 square kilometers of land and is home to the rare black rhinoceros, pride of the lion, elephant, cheetah and large herds of buffalo, antelope, and wildebeest. Along the way, visit the Oldupai Gorge of Louis and Mary Leakey’s famous archaeological discoveries. Their discoveries reach back to the roots of mankind. You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. The afternoon is free.
Today you will visit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend over 600 meters to the bottom of the crater for a full day of up-close wildlife experiences. Discover the forest areas that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the sea area with water birds and many flamingos and the open savannah, home of the hunting lions. The low vegetation offers the best photo opportunities. A picnic lunch is served in the crater.
In the late afternoon, drive back to your lodge in Karatu.
After another hearty breakfast you drive back to Arusha strengthened and full of impressions.
